Meet the
firefighters behind turtle fire solutions
In 2022, the Turtle Fire Systems was developed following a fire involving an electric vehicle in Jersey City, NJ.
When presented with the incident, crews lacked an effective way to deliver water to the battery pack from underneath the vehicle—highlighting a gap in existing tools and tactics.
Founder and Jersey City Fire Captain Howard “Buddy” Hayes set out to address this, developing a practical solution designed around how these fires behave on scene.
Built through research, design, and real-world testing, the Turtle Fire Systems was created to support safer, more effective response to EV fires and other challenging scenarios.
The team brings over 60 years of combined firefighting experience, shaping a tool built for the realities of the fire service.
